A Piano Concert and a Haircut. . .to Help Children

Vacaville, CA - April 22, 2002 -- For composer/pianist Scott D. Davis, long hair has always been part of his image. But this will change on November 2, when he gets his long mane chopped off onstage at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Locks of Love - a charity that provides high quality hair prosthetics to children who suffer from medical hair loss.

Scott’s first CD release “Piano & Woodwinds” - a mixture of both mellow and energetic instrumentals featuring Piano, Flute, and Oboe - debuted in September of 2001. The group will be expanded to also include Violin and Cello when he performs on Saturday, November 2 at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre, 1010 Ulatis drive in Vacaville. The concert will feature new music, as well as songs from his recent CD release. When describing his music, Scott explains that “Most of the songs are inspired when I’m hiking. I try to capture the tranquility of nature, as well as the vigor and confidence of a backcountry adventure. This isn’t rock music, but sometimes it does rock.”

The event will benefit Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization that provides recipients with custom, vacuum-fitted hairpieces made entirely from donated human hair. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. During the show, Scott will receive a haircut and donate his long locks to the charity. “Right now my hair is about elbow length, and I plan to let it grow as long as possible between now and the concert” he says. “I’ve not had really short hair since I was in Jr. high school; I’m sure it will take some getting used to.”
